Foreign Matter

Products can be analyzed for the presence of foreign matter. Foreign matter, such as natural contaminants like hair, string, and dust, is usually introduced during production and storage.

Foreign matter screening entails visually inspecting samples for the presence of hair, insects, dirt, mites, and other foreign matter. Once a general assessment of the sample received is completed, the amount of foreign organic matter is quantified. In order to quantify these materials, the sample is dissected and weighed prior to analysis.

If the foreign matter percent of the sample is below your required limits, then the sample passes the foreign matter quality assurance screening. If either the foreign matter or stems in a sample exceeds your set threshold limits, then the sample fails the foreign matter quality assurance screening and any specific contaminants that caused the sample to fail are noted.
